Trama:
La città di New York è subissata da venti artici, notti buie e luci bianche. La vita degli abitanti ruota intorno alla più grande casa mai costruita e non esiste niente che ne possa scalfire la vitalità. In questo contesto fantastico, una notte d'inverno Peter Lake (Colin Farrell), orfano e grande meccanico, tenta di rapinare un palazzo-fortezza nel quartiere di Upper West Side. Sebbene creda che la residenza sia vuota, trova ad attenderlo Beverly Penn (Jessica Brown Findlay), la giovane figlia dei proprietari che sta per morire. Ha inizio così una storia d'amore che viaggia indietro nel tempo grazie a un cavallo bianco volante.
